About

Conceived in 1914, today's Astoria Park is roughly 60 acres in size. In addition to the track and soccer field, it includes a playground, a skatepark, tennis and bocce courts. Its famous outdoor swimming pool is on the list of New York City Designated Landmarks.

The park is situated on the eastern bank of the east river alongside the dangerous waterway known as Hell Gate. As you immerse yourself in the game, let the legend of the sunken British warship Hussar capture your imagination. During the Revolutionary War, it sank near present-day Astoria Park while carrying the army's payroll, believed to be worth up to four million dollars in gold. Where is that gold today? No one knows for sure; perhaps in a Bronx landfill, perhaps scattered among debris and trash at the bottom of the East River.

The synthetic turf soccer field is surrounded by a blue-colored, eight-lane rubberized track. Both were renovated in 2019 thanks to years of advocacy by the Astoria Park Alliance.

From the soccer field, you can enjoy a stunning view of the Triborough Bridge and Hell Gate Bridge in the distance. Take a moment to appreciate the architectural beauty that adds to the charm of the field.
