About
McCarren Park in North Brooklyn is a prominent and highly utilized hub for soccer, featuring large artificial turf fields. The park, named after State Senator Patrick H. McCarren (1849–1909), has a long history as a major recreational anchor for the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Established in the early 20th century, the park has served generations of Brooklynites, undergoing various transformations over the decades to meet evolving community needs. Historically, the land on which McCarren Park now sits was part of a rich wetland area, with one tributary of Bushwick Creek extending to the park's present-day site. Over time, the area developed, and the park became a beloved public space, known for its iconic pool, recreation centers, and athletic fields. The current artificial turf soccer fields are modern additions, designed to withstand heavy use. They are well-maintained and feature excellent lighting for night games, making them extremely popular for adult leagues and competitive play. The park itself is extensive, providing restrooms and other amenities, contributing to a comprehensive recreational experience. Access is very convenient via the L train (Bedford Avenue or Lorimer Street) or G train (Nassau Avenue or Metropolitan Avenue). Due to its popularity and prime location, the fields are consistently busy, underscoring their importance to the Brooklyn soccer community.
